How to test your integration

1. Make sure the app is installed

Before starting, confirm that you’ve already:

  • Installed Connect to Mailchimp from the Stripe App Marketplace.

  • Completed the onboarding steps to link your Mailchimp account.

If you haven’t done this yet, please install and set up the app first.

2. Set your Permission Status

For testing, we recommend setting your Permission Status in the Connect to Mailchimp app to Subscribed. (This makes it easier to see test emails appear in your Mailchimp audience.)

  1. Open the Connect to Mailchimp app.

  2. Go to Audience

  3. Under Permission Status, select Subscribed and save. Remember to update this again once you’ve finished testing!

3. Create a test product and payment link

  1. In your Stripe Dashboard, go to Payments → Payment Links.

  2. Click + New in the top-right corner.

  3. Under Product, select + Add new product.

  4. In the Add a product window:

    • Enter a test product name.

    • Set a price greater than $0.30 (Stripe requires at least $0.30 for checkout sessions).

  5. Once the product is added, click Create link.

4. Complete a checkout session

  1. Copy the new payment link and open it in a new browser tab.

  2. At checkout, enter an email address that is:

    • Different from your Mailchimp account email.

    • Looks like a real email address. (e.g., jane.doe@gmail.com).

    • If your Permission Status is set to Double opt-in use an email you can access, so you can confirm the opt-in email.

  3. Enter test card details and click Pay.

5. Check Mailchimp

  • The email address used in checkout should now appear in your Mailchimp audience.

  • If it doesn’t show up right away and you’re using Double opt-in check the inbox of the email you entered and confirm the subscription request.
